Since the late 1960s, José Galvez has used black and white photography to document Latino life and culture in the United States. Galvez's photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries here and abroad. But more often, you’ll find his photographs displayed at schools, libraries, fiestas, lowrider shows, and rodeos. In 2004, José and his family moved to North Carolina and he has devoted himself to photographing Hispanic immigration in the South. One of his recent grant projects has been “Land of Opportunity: Latino Entrepreneurs of North Carolina.” José will also be signing copies of his latest book, Shine Boy, which features his childhood stories alongside photographs taken over his career.
